The Zodiac - Oxford - 11/06/99.

Time stands still for no man and music moves on for the guys in Corduroy. The gig at Oxfords Zodiac club re-affirms the funked out and grooved in sound that has made Corduroy one of Britains finest live retro revivalist groups. This gig saw the introduction of material from the bands new album.

People, we have nothing to fear.

As the gig kicked in with "Addison" (how did they think of that name?) the room slowly started get into a good groove which was then cemented down with the new single, "Moshi Moshi" - never let it be said that the boys in Corduroy don't know how to great an audience, wherever they are from.

For all those who have their ears firmly hitched on the original Corduroy sound, the band pleased one and all with the motorized love song "Mini", the Latino edged "Something in my eye" and a great medley involving all those classics off the Dad man Cat album. The new material also saw Scott removing himself (without surgery) from his Hammond and donning an axe for "God Damn" - a great number which captures the groups ability to move on in music but keep their fundamental roots - happy jazz funk style with a drum and bass back ground.

Corduroy has moved on and so has their sound. They do what they do best and they do it damn well - proof enough is surely in the people (like me) who were having great difficulty in keeping still at the gig.

As the gig climaxed with the high havoc classic "Very Yeah", the crowed slowly dripped to the floor below. The gig was a success and the new materials great.

Bored? stressed? Confused and in need of direction? Just buy the albums and see Corduroy live, I guarantee you an excellent time - sk'baa.
